More and More People are Becoming Overweight

... and this is a growing problem year after year.  As I began to study the obesity epidemic in our country, I became passionate about wanting to play a role in alleviating this problem.

So, where does it all start?

Well, in my opinion, it issimply  too much of the wrong foods.  Most food these days is better labeled "food like products."  The truth is that if it does not grow from the earth or come from an earthly inhabitant then it is most likely overly processed and therefore not worth eating.  Unhealthy food is overly abundant.  It is everywhere.  It is actually almost unfathomable that some people in the world are actually starving to death. TV commericals make folks believe that GMO grain, sugar laden ceeral is a great way to start the day. Knowledge of what foods are healthy for the body is being lost.  Eating things from a package over and over is really not a healthy way to nourish the body.

The world is evolving so quickly in technological advances while the body evolves very slowly on a genetic level.  In my eyes, this is the real problem.  We have found ways to have food of all kinds mass produced and shipped all over the world.  Food is actually a drug in many ways.  Food is capable of changing our mood, our feelings and even our rain chemistry.  We crave food.  We even crave food that makes us feel horrible after we eat  it.

Many years ago, our paleolithic predecessors who had very similar genetics to us new age human beings had to hunt and gather their food.  If they wanted 10 almonds, they would have to climb the tree; remove the soft shell; remove the hard shell and enjoy 10 almonds that took about 45 minutes to harvest.  Today, we can go to a bulk bin and get 3 lbs of almonds in 5 seconds flat and eat them ALL on the drive home.

How do we as a Society get a Grasp on the Obesity Epidemic

We have to become MINDFUL about what we put into our mouths.  We have to say NO and sometimes deprive ourselves of something that the mind might crave.  I am not here to fool you ... this is very simple but not very easy.  Eating for health has to be a priority ... it has to be a huge priority.  It means rising up with will power over and over throughout the day until it becomes second nature to eat only healthy food the majority of the time.

I recommend a paleo diet 90% of the time.  Every now and then ... go celebrate with other food.  Just be sure you can come back to your baseline of a healthy paleo diet.  Be cautious about eating mindfully.  Eat only when you are hungry and stop eating when you are full.  Be careful of baked goods that are deemed healthy including paleo desserts, etc.

Follow These SImple Rules and You Will Not Gain Weight

Eat only foods from things that grow on the earth.

Eat only when you are hungry.

Stop eating when you are full.

Drink 2-4 liters of water each day.

Smile, Laugh, Enjoy the process.

Ask yourself before you eat:  Am I hungry?  Will this nourish me?
