Natural Tonics to Keep Your Immune System Strong this WInter

This past weekend I was visiting a dear friend in Mill Valley, California and she introduced me to the Fire Cider. She had been brewing some up for the past couple of weeks and it would be her immune tonic through the Fall and Winter months.  I tasted it and could feel the strong immune boosting properties and digestive qualities of this tonic.  I was inspired to go home and get my own fire cider brewing.

What is in the Fire Cider Immune Tonic

Fire Cider is very simple and easy to make.  I keep mine really simple with:

1/8 cup garlic cloves, chopped

1/2 cup horseradish root peeled and chopped

1/2 cup grated ginger root

1/2 cup onion chopped

quart raw apple cider vinegar

pinch of cayenne

I place the above herbs in the bottom of a quart jar and fill to the top with raw apple cider vinergar.  I then add 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper and cover the jar. I let it brew for 4 weeks to 6 months.  It is best kept  in a dark cabinet.   When I feel the fire cider is ready, I strain the herbs with a cheese cloth and drink 1 tbsp to 1 oz. of the liquid every day!  You can also add it to hot water and drink as a tea.  Some peole will add a bit of local, organic honey after they strai it for a little sweetness. Some enjoy this added to tomato juice or even as a salad dressing,

The Healing Properties of Fire Cider

Fire Cider is highly revered by herbalists and has been passed down through many healing traditions as a winter time immune booster.  A tablespoon of fire cider per day will keep those coughs and flu's away.  It is immune boosting, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, decongestive and it moves the circulatory system.
