Tips for Managing Hunger and Flexible Free Foods on the HCG Diet Protocol

Luckily, most patients on the HCG Diet Program deal with little to no hunger despite following a very restricted diet on phase II of the program. This is due to the fact that the HCG along with the specific diet helps the body to let go of 1500-2500 calories per day for your body to use as fuel. For this reason, the body is not going through a caloric deprivation. We can see this when we put our patients on our body composition analyzer as the lean mass of the body changes very little throughout the program, while the fat mass percentage begins to decrease quite a bit.

Hunger and Cravings Come On for Many Reasons on the HCG Diet and in Life

The HCG Diet program, is a nice time to assess where your hunger/cravings come from. Often, the hunger is not true physiologic hunger and comes on out of some emotional need to eat, boredom, etc. It is a great time to learn about the potential triggers to eating and how to overcome them. For those of us who deal with emotional eating triggers there is a book called “Tapping for Weight Loss and Body Confidence,” by Jessica Ortner. This book uses the emotional freedom technique to help deal with food cravings. It has been an extremely powerful tool for many of my HCG Diet patients. It is important to get to the root cause of hunger and cravings while on the HCG Diet as this can really transform your life in an incredible way.

A few Tips to Help Deal with Hunger between Meals on the HCG Diet and in Life

On our HCG Diet protocol, we have created a list of FREE foods that our patients can enjoy as they desire. With such a restricted protocol it is nice to tell yourself that you can have an unlimited quantity of something. These vegetables include celery, cucumber, radish, spinach and lettuces. We also recommend that our patients go for water. Mineral water can also be a nice way to stay hydrated and increase the feeling of satiety. We also remind patients that having true physiological hunger on the program is not a good idea. If you decide your hunger not from an emotional source then it is a good idea to nourish your body by going for an extra cup of veggies and an ounce or two of an allowable protein source whenever needed. This may go above and beyond the specific HCG Diet food protocol and that is okay.
