Ginger Tea -- One of my all time Favorites

There is nothing that soothes the cold weather for me like a cup of steamy ginger tea.  I have been having it twice daily now for almost the entire month of November and with every sip I love it.  The root or rhizome of the ginger plant is the part that is used for making tea.  I always purchase organically grown ginger root.  This time of year, you may be lucky enough to find young ginger root which is really a treat as it is even more potent than mature ginger root.

Creating a Cup of Ginger Tea

Ginger tea is very simple to create.  Just take about 3-4 inches of ginger root and gently peel it. You will then chop it into thin slices.  Place the slices into a pot of pure water and bring to a boil. Once it comes to a boil, I let it stay there for a few minutes. Then, I turn it down to simmer and let it sit there for about 20 minutes. When ready to serve, I pour it into my cup.  I love to add the juice of 1/2 fresh lemon and 4-5 stevia drops. You can also add honey if you desire.  If the ginger is too hot for you in flavor you can just dilute it down with hot water until it is to taste.  I use the ginger slices to make tea over and over again for about 2 days.

The Health Benefits of Ginger

Ginger has been known for thousands of years to have a myriad of health benefits.  It is high in Vitamin C, magnesium and other minerals.  Ginger is famous for its help with digestion.  It helps with nausea, upset stomach and bloating after eating a large meal.  Ginger also decreases inflammation in the body and helps with joint aches and pains.  It relives the congestion of the common cold; stimulates the immune system and boosts our blood circulation.
