Eat Well over the Holidays on the HCG Diet

What did the “Pilgrims” eat for Thanksgiving?” asked an HCG Diet patient

It was in the 1600’s that the pilgrims had their first Thanksgiving dinner.  It was not a time of over eating and sharing in huge amounts of food and drink.  Instead, it was a 3 day celebration of the incredible bounty that the season of autumn brought to the table.  The Fall harvest was food that would last through the long, cold winter months.  Thanksgiving a celebration of that amazing sustenance given to us by mother-nature to carry us through a long winter.  It is said that this meal included venison, green beans and squash.

In modern times, almost 400 years later we still celebrate this wonderful holiday.  Only we tend to do it with too much food. Many of our HCG Diet patients ask us how to maintain their weight through the holidays.

Eating a heavy meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, pies, whipped cream and alcohol are certainly not the way to keep the waist line trim this season.  It is also important to remember that Thanksgiving marks the beginning of a holiday season that goes until January 1st.

Our first recommendation is to practice mindfulness while eating. Be aware of what you are putting into your mouth.  Many people these days are very sensitive to sugar in their body and have some form of insulin resistance.  This means that an abundance of carbohydrates is going to lead to an increase in insulin and then cortisol and then fat storage.  Eat only when you are hungry.  Eat only until you are full and then stop.

Supplements to Help your Digestion in the Holiday Season

Digestive enzymes are one of my all time favorite supplements for digestion. They really work well when you suddenly feel like you have eaten just a bit too much. They contain lipases to break down fat; amylases to help with carbohydrates and proteases assist with protein break down in the stomach.

We also recommend to begin each day as you do on the HCG Diet with a probiotic and a glass of warm water with fresh squeezed lemon and perhaps a splash of raw apple cider vinegar. This is a wonderful way to prime digestion at the start of the day!

Happy Holidays to all and if you are on our HCG Diet Program please ask us for our favoirte HCG Diet friendly Holiday Menu plans.
