It is Nice to Have Seasonal Treats on the HCG Diet

This is a wonderful, seasonal delight that can count as one or two of your fruit servings on the HCG Diet.  As a child, my grandmother would make applesauce every Fall and it was my favorite.  No other apple sauce has ever compared.  My Dad also took on this tradition and continues to make applesauce from the apples in his yard each fall.  In the past few years, I too have taken this tradition into my own home.  Homemade applesauce is truly simple and super delicious.  It is also 100% HCG Diet friendly on any phase of the program.

Well, the amazing thing is that in apple sauce there is only one ingredient ... yes, you guessed it ... apples!  I like to find local, organic apples whenever I can and I also like to find some macintosh apples to add in. One of my favorite combo's is Macintosh and Fuji apples. I cut the apples into quarters and toss the center. Leave the peels on and this can add a nice pinkish color to the applesauce.   I then get a large sauce pan and add less than a centimeter of water. Place the apple quarters (peels and all) into the sauce pan and cook covered over medium heat for 35-40 minutes.  The apples will be soft and mushy.  I then use a food press with a wooden pestle over a bowl to strain the apple sauce through to make it smooth and creamy.  If you prefer to make it a bit simpler, you can blend the cooked apples in your blender.  I love the strained way a bit more.

How much of this Delicious HCG Diet Treat can I Have?

It is important to note that when any food is cooked, especially fruit, the sugar content does increase a bit.  In order to keep the blood sugar from getting too high on phase II of the HCG Diet I do not recommend more than 1/2 cup per serving.  On phase 3 of the HCG Diet I am comfortable with people having 3/4 cup per serving.

Enjoy this little treat!  SO many of the fall delights lie in the realm of starchy vegetables such as squash and pumpkin pie and do not fall into the realms of the HCG Diet program.  It is nice to be able to have a delicious treat that is also in season while on Phase II of the HCG Diet Protocol.
